Harry Styles @ Marvel Stadium

I enjoyed the hits, charm and showmanship, but spending a couple of hours in a stadium packed with thousands of delirious screaming girls was a tad too much for this geriatric millennial*.
Child with Cat by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
The painting shows Julie Manet, the daughter of fellow artists Edouard Manet and Berthe Morisot, and her kitten who seems to be so blissed out in her lap it’s practically smiling. Children can be thoughtlessly cruel, so I assume that Julie was a nice kid to earn this kind of absolute trust from a cat.

The Banshees of Inisherin – Film Review

I finally caught up with this movie in which writer-director Martin McDonagh reunites Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell in a quirky, sad and darkly hilarious tale about severed friendship on a remote island.
Eat Drink Man Woman – Film Review

A delectable, heartwarming Taiwanese comedy-drama about dysfunctional family, food and sex.
While the Light Lasts by Agatha Christie – Book Review

A collection of early short stories that I suspect would only be of interest to diehard Christie devotees and completists.
The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe – Book Review

It took me a couple of reads to wrap my head around this haunting, disorienting and imaginative trio of sci-fi novellas that take the reader into a labyrinth full of mirrors and puzzles.
New Music 01/2023 – ThornBird, Aurora, Mdou Moctar

Solo album from one-third of The Waifs; a newie from my favourite Norwegian forest spirit; electrifying desert blues.
From the Point of View of a Cat by Karel Čapek

I read and enjoyed a few short stories by this Czech writer as a teenager, but the one that had stuck with me the most is this humorous and delightful story written from a feline point of view. I love the glimpses of genuine affection behind the arrogance.
