Anora – Film Review

Sean Baker’s chaotic, funny and profane anti-fairytale about a Brooklyn sex worker came just under the hype for me, but I still found plenty to love about it, including Mikey Madison’s outstanding lead performance.
Dominion by Tom Holland – Book Review

An absorbing, ambitious and well-written journey through history of Christianity, its impact on the western culture, and its enduring influence in the modern world.
The Outrun – Film Review

Saoirse Ronan is mesmerising in this stark, tough story of addiction and recovery set against the windswept landscapes of the Orkney Islands.
Waxahatchee @ Forum Theatre

I was back at the beautiful Forum Theatre for my last gig of 2024, the warm harmonies and comforting, country-tinged indie folk.
Wicked – Film Review

Once in a while, a movie will turn out to be a pleasant surprise, and this year it’s the big screen version of a beloved Broadway musical that I initially had zero interest in seeing.
Woman With Cat by Kees Von Dongen
A gorgeous and delicate painting. I love the complementary colours and the tender body language, both from the cat and the woman holding the cat. My own cat will tolerate being held for a couple of seconds tops.

It Follows – Film Review

A horror movie with a simple, original and brilliantly unnerving premise, It Follows may not be perfect but it was effective enough to wreck my night’s sleep afterwards.
St Vincent @ Palais Theatre

I’ve been a fan of Annie Clark a.k.a. St Vincent for over fifteen years and now I finally got to see her solo live show. I pretty much knew that she would be fabulous, but I still didn’t expect to have so much fun.
