Dry Cleaning @ Corner Hotel (12/2022)
2022 has been a pretty damn good year for live music, and an excellent gig from this intriguing post-punk band was a great way to cap it off.
Aldous Harding @ Elisabeth Murdoch Hall (10/2022)
I almost missed out on the enigmatic Kiwi singer-songwriter’s Melbourne gig, but in the end her live show made me an even bigger fan of her idiosyncratic take on folk.
New Music 10/2022 – Rosalía, Torres, Nilüfer Yanya
I kinda slowed down on the new music in the past few months, and music in general to be honest, because for some reason I’ve preferred listening to YouTube creators and podcasts lately. However I did find time for a few great releases from this and past years.
Moonage Daydream – Film Review
An ambitious, kaleidoscopic David Bowie documentary that’s both intoxicating and exhausting, Moonage Daydream is a glorious feast for the eyes and ears that throws everything but the kitchen sink onscreen.
The Hu @ 170 Russell (08/2022)
I never expected to post about a concert by a Mongolian folk metal band, but now and then YouTube throws something truly special your way, and when they stop by your city you just have to see them. As it turned out, these guys put on one hell of a show.
Amyl and the Sniffers @ Forum Theatre (07/2022)
A last-minute ticket purchase turned out to be the best gig of the year so far! It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced a night of such pure unadulterated punk rock energy.
New Music 07/2022 – Dry Cleaning, Brandi Carlile, Tori Amos
Wiry and playful post-punk; classic songwriting and a great voice; a sparkling return to form, fifteen years in the making.
Zulya Kamalova @ Primrose Potter Salon (07/2022)
I enjoyed an intimate and nostalgic evening dedicated to Cruel Romance, the Russian ballad-style songs about the darker and sadder side of life.
MSO: Beethoven Symphony No. 9 @ Hamer Hall (07/2022)
