The only thing that’s better than a limerick is a cat limerick!
There once were two cats of Kilkenny,

What a luxury a cat is, the moments of shocking and startling pleasure in a day, the feel of the beast, the soft sleekness under your palm, the warmth when you wake on a cold night, the grace and charm even in a quite ordinary workaday puss. Cat walks across your room, and in that lonely stalk you see leopard or even panther, or it turns its head to acknowledge you and the yellow blaze of those eyes tells you what an exotic visitor you have here, in this household friend.

1. Behemoth (The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov)This list is not really in an order of preference, but Behemoth is probably my favourite fictional cat, and not just because I’ve read this book about 50 times over, in both Russian and English. He’s an enormous black cat who accompanies Satan on his visit to Soviet Moscow in the 1930s, and provides some of the novel’s best humourous passages. He walks on two legs, has a fondness for sarcasm, pistols and vodka, but is polite enough to offer to pay for the tram ride. What’s not to love?
An illustration I did way back in uni for an annual report project. Mine was for a fictional cat food company called Smart Cat. See if you can spot the cat that’s clearly an impostor 🙂
Went to the Melbourne Cat Cafe yesterday with my sister. Cat cafes are apparently very popular in Japan, but so far I think it’s the only one of its kind here in Melbourne.
