This week’s topic from That Artsy Reader Girl was a fun challenge. Not only do you have to pick your favourite books by your favourite authors, you also have to decide who your favourite authors actually are.
It made me realise that a great deal of my best-loved books are by the authors that I haven’t really explored beyond one or two of their works. Because I’m a stickler for self-imposed rules, I’m only including the authors that I read more or less extensively, no less than three books. I also put a twist by including a runner-up!
1. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Runner-up: The Remains of the Day
2. The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood
Runner-up: The Blind Assassin
3. The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing
Runner-up: Love, Again
4. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Runner-up: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
5. Small Gods by Terry Pratchett
Runner-up: Night Watch
6. Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham
Runner-up: The Moon and Sixpence
7. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
Runner-up: The Dispossessed
8. Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin
Runner-up: The Stepford Wives
9. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Runner-up: My Cousin Rachel
10. The Doomed City by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
Runner-up: Beetle in the Anthill

I read Small Gods last year. So good. So funny. RIP Terry Pratchett.

A great idea to include a runner-up. I had trouble choosing only ten authors and then an even bigger challenge deciding which one of their books I liked best.

That Christie book is the only one I have heard of but the others look and sound neat as well.
