This week’s Top Ten Tuesday from That Artsy Reader Girl is about picking your own topic relating to book covers. I thought I’d go back in history and look up the book covers from before the 20th century. I’d especially love to get my hands on those magnificent jewel-encrusted medieval creations!

1. Lindau Gospels
9th century, Eastern France

2. Dracula by Bram Stoker
First edition 1897

3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
1894 edition

4. Prayer book
Early 16th century, England

5. The Flowers Personified by J. J. Grandville
1857, France

6. The Cowboy Clan or the Tigress of Texas
Late 19th century, England

7. Gospel book
14th century, France

8. Geneva Bible of Elizabeth I
16th century, England

9. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
1891, England

10. Flower Fables by Louisa May Alcott
1898, USA

Ohh, I like your idea. I’ve never seen that Jane Eyre cover before. I went with recent book covers I’ve looked at. 🙂

A great idea for a prompt. I like seeing old book covers.
Have a great week!

Lovely collection of covers! It goes to show why only the church and rich people used to own books.

I love your take on today’s prompt! It’s fascinating how even years ago, a book cover had to draw a reader in!
